A two-day board workshop that transformed SEN from a capacity-stretched network into confident sector leaders.  


The challenge: Capacity meets ambition 

The Student Experience Network (SEN) had reached the end of their three-year strategy and needed to review their direction. As the only professional network for student experience across Australia and New Zealand, they faced a tough reality: big ambitions but limited resources.


The organisation was stretched thin just as the sector faced massive challenges. COVID created lasting change for the sector, and recent legislation changes were changing the expectations of members. SEN sought to pivot their approach from being a key enabler  to true leaders in the student experience profession.


Our approach: Strategy in action

Simple Nimble designed and facilitated a  two-day board strategy session that moved beyond traditional planning to create genuine alignment and immediate activation. Rather than creating another strategy document destined for the shelf, we focused on building both vision and implementation capability simultaneously.


We worked closely with the CEO and Chair to understand the challenges facing student experience professionals, then guided the Board through sessions combining visioning with practical planning. Real-time synthesis and collaborative problem-solving meant the Board could see their strategy taking shape during the workshop.


The transformation: Bold leadership activated

SEN emerged with alignment around four transformative priorities that will reshape the student experience profession and created detailed implementation plans with clear accountability, and a decision-making framework to support them through implementation.  


The Lesson: Vision without action is just wishful thinking

Effective strategy requires both bold thinking and practical implementation planning delivered together. By building the how-to during strategy development, organisations can move from aspiration to leadership without losing momentum.
