Strategic Implementation Support

How Aurora Energy transformed strategic aspiration into action

Aurora Energy had clarity on their 2026-2030 strategy. What they needed was the right infrastructure to deliver it systematically.

The challenge: Bridging strategy and execution

Aurora Energy had successfully completed their strategic refresh, doubling down on their mission as "Tasmanians' trusted energy partner."

However, as a medium-sized government-owned organisation in Tasmania's rapidly changing energy landscape, they faced a critical gap between strategic ambition and systematic delivery. Existing governance structures reflected an old way of working, no longer fit for where they were headed.

We supported their strategy team with advisory support to define an implementation infrastructure that would enable sustained strategic delivery whilst maintaining operational excellence.

Our approach: Systematic implementation design

Simple Nimble worked with Aurora Energy across 3 key areas:

  • Strategic governance architecture – creating steering committees aligned with strategic levers that operated with support from their cross-functional group focused on strategy execution. This created clear accountability structures appropriate for their scale and government ownership requirements.
  • Implementation capability – The team excelled at delivery. We supported them through regular coaching to push their strategic thinking and challenge existing approaches.
  • Facilitate strategic alignment - The leadership team met regularly to develop and monitor strategy activities. We helped them align strategic conversations across the organisation while staying connected to operational delivery.
Key Insights
  • Systematic governance enables strategic agility: Well-designed implementation infrastructure doesn't slow down strategic delivery, it accelerates it by providing clear decision-making pathways and accountability structures that prevent strategic initiatives from becoming confused at the operational level.
  • Meeting architecture reflects strategic maturity: Separating strategic governance from operational management through dedicated steering committees created space for genuine strategic thinking while ensuring excellence remained protected and prioritised.
  • Scale-appropriate governance prevents bureaucracy:  The committee structure provided comprehensive strategic oversight without overwhelming their medium-sized organisation. The design leveraged existing strengths while creating cross-functional coordination.
The transformation

By the conclusion of our engagement, Aurora Energy had comprehensive strategic implementation infrastructure in place. Strategic initiatives that previously required ad-hoc coordination now move through clear decision pathways, and the team developed internal capacity to manage strategic implementation independently.

The Lesson: Implementation infrastructure determines strategic success

When organisations invest in governance frameworks that match their scale, culture, and accountability requirements, they create sustainable conditions for strategic delivery rather than episodic strategic activity. Aurora Energy's commitment to building proper implementation infrastructure unlocked genuine strategic transformation capacity.
